Catalan newspaper Sport believes Barcelona are looking towards the Brazilian market again, having signed Arthur from Gremio in the summer transfer window.
The Arthur deal was worked on for some time by Barcelona, with Robert Fernandez travelling to Brazil more than once in relation to the deal. At one point an image of the former Barca transfer guru alongside a blaugrana shirt wearing Arthur was leaked to the media.
Gremio could have caused much more trouble than they actually did, and ask for FIFA sanctions, and in the end Barca were lucky to only have to pay some more for Arthur in order to placate the Brazilian club.
The target this time is Lucas Paqueta, explains Sport. A possible transfer gets the front page of the Monday edition, and it’s claimed Barcelona are ‘moving with due diligence’ to sign the Flamengo player.
Lucas is 21 years of age and Barca have ‘a lot of interest’, the potential transfer is all part of the long term plan to renew the club’s midfield.
A goalscorer, Lucas fits into the ‘prototype of a modern midfielder’, according to Sport.
