On Wednesday morning, ESPN reported they’d been informed of Manchester United interest in Donny van de Beek.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was said to be pushing Ed Woodward for signings in the January transfer window, with midfield obviously a particular area of concern.
This is now being covered in the Netherlands. Voetbal International, one of the country’s top sport media outlets, report Manchester United want to sign the Dutchman in the summer.
A winter move is seen as unlikely, but Ajax are preparing themselves for a possible summer exit.
VI’s article was published at 5.23pm Dutch time, following on from an AD one at 5.08pm.
AD is a major Dutch newspaper, and they stated Solskjaer wants the player this month, but would be willing to wait until the next market if necessary.
Given how closely the articles came out, and that they followed ESPN’s earlier claims, but don’t credit them, this feels like it’s coming from Ajax or sources close to the player. Both stories also cover interest from Real Madrid, who are presented as an option for the summer.
It’d be no surprise if this is covered in Thursday’s De Telegraaf, and that could be a sure sign Marc Overmars is using the English reports to help him build the Van de Beek market ahead of the summer.
