West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta will either be acquitted or banned from football for allege betting offences, there will be no ‘middle ground’ in the case.

That’s according to journalist Fred Caldeira, for TNT Sports Brasil, who reports that sources close the case are insistent the West Ham man will not be offered a suspension.

He explains that there is currently no option for suspension being discussed by the various parties, among other potential outcomes to the case.

His trial for alleged betting offences, brought by the Football Association, has already been concluded. Unless there is new information, the verdict should be released in the first half of June.

Caldeira offers no indication of how the West Ham star’s trial has gone but insists it will either be a case of acquittal or complete ban. Numerous reports have indicated that the FA were calling for a lifetime ban from football if Paqueta is found guilty.

The Brazilian has continually pleaded his innocence in the case and allegations brought against him and members of his family for alleged betting offences back in his homeland.

He was seen reduced to tears this past weekend after receiving a yellow card for a foul on Mikey Moore in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham. It is that incident which prompted the latest information from Caldeira.
