The Swedish media believe Sweden’s U21 clash with England on Friday will be a shop window for players hoping to take the next step in their career. One of those players will be IFK Norrköping defender Linus Wahlqvist, linked with Leeds United on a number occasions in the past 12 months.
Aftonbladet highlight the likes of Oscar Hiljemark, Filip Helander and John Guidetti ,who in the past have got moves to major leagues due a successful Euro U21 campaign, and the Swedish newspaper believe Wahlqvist could be next.
They say the 20-year-old is expected to leave IFK, with many clubs interested in the left back. Wahlqvist is one of the key players in the Sweden U21 team after dropping down from the seniors, and should make an impact in the tournament.
Leeds United have already tried to sign the young defender, making an approach for Wahlqvist last summer. Throughout this season Leeds United have continued to be linked with the youngster in the Swedish media, and it’s possible they’ll again show interest in the next window despite Garry Monk leaving the club.
Last week Wahlqvist told the Swedish press he’s ready to make the next step in his career, but Leeds United could face competition from Fiorentina and Valencia.
