L’Equipe journalist Erik Bielderman has spoken about his admiration for Leeds United supporters when asked about which grounds have the best atmosphere in English football. Leeds United are currently playing in the Championship, but still have one of the best average home attendances in the country.
Speaking to France Football, Bielderman said despite Leeds United playing in the second tier of English football they still average around 30,000 fans at home games. Bielderman believes it is hard for the Leeds United fans to accept being in the Championship, but he thinks they have remained loyal to the club.
The Frenchman went on to say it must be difficult for opposing teams to play at Elland Road because of the pressure the Leeds United faithful put on them.
“Leeds went down, but they must average 30,000 spectators. It is a bad point (playing in the Championship), the fans are tough, but they are absolutely faithful. You can only admire the pressure they put you under,” said the French journalist.
Other clubs who were mentioned by the French journalist include Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and the two North East clubs.
It’s nice for Leeds fans to know that the club, and their support, is still highly regarded in Europe, despite recent struggles.
