Remember when West Brom narrowly missed out on Angers defender Romain Thomas last summer?
Well, Tony Pulis hasn’t given up on the French defender just yet.
The 28-year-old was key in the Ligue 1 club’s great run last season, finishing ninth following their promotion from Ligue 2, but with West Brom getting the proceedings started too late and Angers incapable of finding a replacement in time on transfer deadline day, the deal collapsed.
However, Sport Witness understands that, as things stand, Romain Thomas remains West Bromwich Albion’s number one choice to bolster their defence.
Despite this, the chances of a transfer happening this window are slim, mostly because the Premier League side are currently focused on buying a striker and a midfielder, as shown by their bids for Hull City’s Jake Livermore and Watford’s Odion Ighalo.
Were they to then go and improve their defence, their first port of call would be Romain Thomas.
Angers’s sophomore season in Ligue 1 isn’t quite going as well as last year’s campaign, with the minnows currently 18th on goal difference with 20 points from their first 20 games.
