Over the past month or so, we’ve covered the Victor Wanyama situation in detail, with most of the reports coming out of Belgium due to Club Brugge’s interest in the player.
However, the Jupiler Pro League club never got their man (you can find all the information about that here) and other clubs also took some interest in the Tottenham midfielder.
According to RMC Sport, Marseille in Ligue 1, who sold Luiz Gustavo to Fenerbahce, were interested the Kenya international towards the end of the window.
It wasn’t to buy, though, as the French club didn’t have the finances to get a deal over the line, so the loan option was being studied.
With the transfer deadline now passed and Wanyama still at Tottenham, it’s fair to say the deal taking the defensive midfielder to the south of France never went through, and Marseille are now trying to get Valentin Rongier as a ‘joker transfer’.
Clubs in France are still allowed to sign one extra player after the transfer window has shut as long as he comes from a French club, hence why they are still working on the Nantes star.
