Tiémoué Bakayoko’s transfer to Chelsea has been on and off for weeks, even months. The AS Monaco midfielder at first played hard to get with Chelsea, which didn’t go down too well with the Stamford Bridge club.

Worried he could lose the chance to move to the Premier League champions, Bakayoko’s camp started playing the game more conventionally, but still personal terms saw the deal drag out even further.

Now, after a time when many in France had thought it would be announced, France Football say it’s a knee injury holding the transfer up.

Chelsea are worried about the knee, and the midfielder could be set to go under the knife to clear an issue up, something which would leave him out of action for eight to ten weeks, not ideal from a new signing.

Manchester United have recently been linked with the player, and whilst France Football mention that, they make sure to also say those links came from the English media… adding nothing of their own.
