When there are claims flying around Anthony Martial, such as the player renewing his contract, then the best place to look is always RMC and their journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.
The French outlet has spoken to his agent on many occasions throughout the player’s Manchester United career, both through good and bad times.
On Friday evening they report there’s general agreement on Martial continuing at Old Trafford and extending his contract with the Premier League club.
That deal would be for five years, and RMC say the player’s agent Philippe Lamboley has confirmed it, and added that “some details need to be finalised”.
It’s a big turnaround for the player after it was repeatedly made clear to RMC and others in France that a renewal wasn’t being considered.
Perhaps the exit of Jose Mourinho has made all the difference needed, and Martial himself spoke this week about how much he’s enjoying life under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
“It is great for me to work with a manager who was attacking even when he was playing, just like me. He comes with good advice, especially suggestions for positioning in front of goal and the actual finishing. There, he helped me a lot,” Martial told Norway’s TV2.
“The best advice I have received from him until now is that I have to play to my strengths. Don’t put pressure on myself. He says I have to express myself on the pitch. It is very nice to be able to get such advice from Solskjaer.”
Perhaps with a nod to difficulties under the previous regime, Martial added about his new boss: “He can be quite strict with those who have earned it. A good manager must have a bit of both, he must be strict with the players, but also create joy and a good mood.”
RMC state: ‘Manchester United: Martial will extend 5 years
French striker Anthony Martial has reached an agreement with the Red Devils to extend his contract by five more seasons. The information has been confirmed by his agent, Philippe Lamboley who specifies that some details remain to be resolved.’
