With the Turkish transfer window closing after those of Europe’s main leagues, local clubs are able to do some late shopping this summer, and one of the big recent transfers was the one of Nathan Redmond, who swapped Southampton for Besiktas.
That sounds like an unusual move at first, although it does look more familiar if we recall that Dele Alli made a similar transfer to the Turkish club when leaving Everton on a loan deal this summer as well.
So by seeing his compatriot moving to Turkey before him, Redmond made sure to get some advice before taking the final decision before leaving Southampton.
“We talked to Dele. He spoke to me a lot about the atmosphere here and the interest people have in him. Of course, that was one of the feelings we wanted to experience for me and my family,” said Redmond (via Gokmen Ozcan).
Dele Alli left Everton for Besiktas on a one-year loan spell.
He had even made two Premier League appearances for the Toffees this season, but ended up moving to Turkey and already has one goal in two games for his new club.
Redmong, meanwhile, joined the Istanbul side on a permanent move from Southampton, having signed a one-year deal.
