Chelsea were interested in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen four years ago but didn’t consider him good enough at the time.

That’s the claim from scout turned sports director Carlo Jacomuzzi as the Blues are again linked with a move for the superstar striker.

Osimhen looks set to be one of the big names of the transfer market in the summer, with several big sides in Europe thought to be ready to move for him as they look for a star man up front.

Chelsea are one of them, with their current squad lacking a regular goal scorer and having suffered because of it this season.

They’ve been linked with a huge move for Osimhen in the summer, with a recent report claiming they are ready to attack for him and a bid, worth around €120m, was already ready.

That would be a huge fee to pay, particularly for a Chelsea team who are now beyond €1bn spent since Todd Boehly and co took charge at Stamford Bridge.

And it seems they could have avoided paying such a sum too, with Jacomuzzi claiming that they were in the mix for Osimhen long before he became the big-name profile that he is today.

“Osimhen at Chelsea? Four years ago, they already wanted him at Chelsea,” he said.

“Some friends who work there had gone to see him and had evaluated him, but if you don’t cost at least €150m they won’t consider you.

“I don’t know if he is in Chelsea’s orbit today, but he would certainly do very well in the Premier League.”
