Former Leeds United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel believes it’s incredible what he’s achieved since playing in the lower leagues. The Dane kickstarted his career at Leeds United after joining the club from Notts County.
Speaking to BT Sports following Leicester City’s brilliant victory over Sevilla, Schmeichel said he’s made big steps since playing in the third tier of English football.
The Denmark international was especially touched by Leicester’s achievements given that eh’s had to battle his way to the top of the game, with the help of Leeds United, rather than landing straight in the Premier League.
“Lining up hearing the Champions League song… For a lot of us, I’ve come a long way. I went right down all the way to League 2 and to be standing here in the quarter finals of the CL is quite incredible,” said the former Leeds United star.
Schmeichel played just one season at Leeds United despite the 31-year-old wanting to remain at Elland Road. The goalkeeper signed for Leicester City from Leeds United in 2011, and has been with the East Midlands club since then.
