Former Norway international Rune Bratseth, has told the Norwegian media he expects Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer to eventually move to a major European League.
The young defender has been grabbing the headlines in Norway following his performances for his country and Celtic.
Speaking to Nettavisen, the former Werder Bremen star was asked about he expects from his compatriot in the coming years: “He has huge potential and can go very far, but it’s too early to compare him to Van Dijk. He was a one off and undoubtedly the best defender Celtic has had in the past 20 years.
“But Ajer is going in the right direction and I think he will play in one of the bigger leagues in a few years.”
Ajer again impressed for Norway during their victory over Cyprus last week, but he couldn’t prevent their defeat to Bulgaria yesterday. This was the first time he’d lost a game whilst playing for his country.
The youngster this season has been getting a run of games in Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven and given his size it always seemed likely he would be compared to former Celtic star Virgil van Dijk.
At just 20 years old, more will be expected of the player in the coming years for Celtic and Norway.
