Placing David Unsworth as their interim manager following Ronald Koeman’s sacking, Everton now need to make a decision: giving their U23 manager a real chance or appointing someone in his stead quickly.

With claims that former managers like David Moyes and currently employed ones such as Sean Dyche could be looked at, a new name has appeared, this time in France.

According to InfoMercato, ex-Aston Villa manager Rémi Garde is a name on Everton’s shortlist, and this shows how quickly things have gotten out of hand already.

It could be said the French manager’s time with the Villains was always going to be a failure, and few Aston Villa fans blame him for their club’s relegation to the Championship, but, even so, there was no sign of improvement under him.

Aston Villa are still looking for a return to the Premier League, now under Steve Bruce, but it was clear they didn’t have a future under Garde.

There was also no indication Garde could do better with more funds and better players at his disposal, and just considering him would be a real act of desperation from Everton.

Considering themselves a club with a lot of ambition, going for the likes of Thomas Tuchel or even the aforementioned Sean Dyche, who has excelled at Burnley with limited resources, makes a lot more sense.
