Former Aston Villa coach Steve Clarke believes Sheffield Wednesday will be the club that is promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs. At this stage it’s looking likely a Yorkshire club could come up, with Huddersfield Town and Leeds United also in the running.
Speaking to BT Sports, Clarke was asked about the prospect of a Yorkshire club gaining promotion to the top flight.
The former Aston Villa man thinks Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday will grab one of the four play-off spots, along with his old club Reading. However, Clarke believes with Sheffield Wednesday’s past experience in the play-offs they will be the ones to be promoted.
“For the play-offs, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United Reading and Sheffield Wednesday. With their experience from last year I expect Sheffield Wednesday to come up,” said Clarke.
In recent months Huddersfield Town and Leeds United have occupied positions in the play-offs, but in the past few weeks Sheffield Wednesday have crept in. The Owls lost in last season’s final to Hull City, and will be hoping they can go one better this time round.
