Former Arsenal midfielder Kim Kallstrom has questioned Leeds United star Pontus Jansson over comments he made about Erik Hamren. The former Sweden coach stepped down after this summer’s Euros, and Jansson has been critical about his tactics.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Kallstrom was asked about the flak Hamren received from the likes of Jansson and Jimmy Durmaz. The 34-year-old said this kind of thing happens when players aren’t being selected by the coach, which was the case with Leeds United’s Jansson.
Kallstrom believes it is easy to criticise when watching from a distance, and even though not everything was perfect there was still a plan to Sweden’s game.
“First and foremost, it is pretty typical in terms of who’s playing and not playing. It’s easy to sit afterwards and point out things that were not good. It is clear that all was not perfect, but I think we had a pretty clear idea,” said the former Arsenal and Lyon player.
Kallstrom was a surprise signing by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when he brought the Swede in on loan. Due to injury Kallstrom only played a handful of games for Arsenal, but did help them to the FA Cup final in 2014.
Jansson has had more success in England than his compatriot since signing for Leeds United on loan in the summer. The defender has become a hero among the Elland Road faithful, and his performances have helped him get more playing time with his country.
