There’s a time and a place for everything, and a rumour about Milan wanting Mauricio Pochettino a couple of days after Tottenham played (and won) their first game in their shiny new stadium certainly just isn’t it.
Corriere dello Sport don’t care, however, and they go all in on Friday, explaining that with big question marks surrounding Gennaro Gattuso’s future at San Siro, Ivan Gazidis has set his gaze on the Spurs manager to take over should they part ways with the Italian.
While the newspaper explain that Jürgen Klopp would be the ‘dream’, Pochettino is a better fit for the former Arsenal chief’s plans than the German.
The Argentine’s willingness to play youth, a direction the Serie A club want to go in, and his ability to get his teams playing in the Champions League are the two main factors, as is his ‘corroding’ relationship with Tottenham.
Spurs apparently haven’t ‘forgiven him’ for his ‘flirting’ with Real Madrid, and this suggests a parting of ways could be on the cards.
That’s what Corriere dello Sport seem to think, at least, because to us, Pochettino stating that Spurs opening their new stadium was ‘one of the best moments in his life’ makes us believe he’s quite happy in London.
This appears to be a relatively long shot, and there’s far more chance of Milan landing the likes of Conte than the Tottenham manager.
