Earlier this week we brought news of Tottenham’s summer transfer window getting underway.
Sadly, for Spurs fans anyway, it wasn’t a big name signing to bolster the ranks but the club keeping their eye on the future once more.
El Desmarque reported they had completed the signing of highly-rated youngster Yago de Santiago, one of the ‘best cadets’ at Celta Vigo.
That was the conclusion of a year’s worth of interest from Spurs, who reportedly had the youngster over at their training ground back in April and had offered him a contract with ‘extraordinary’ numbers.
Those original rumours came from Faro de Vigo, and they’ve now provided plenty of detail on the actual transfer.
Faro claim that despite Celta’s best efforts, several of their talented youngsters are moving on this summer, with the club’s labours to keep them ‘falling on deaf ears’.
They claim that Yago de Santiago’s move to Spurs is a ‘particularly painful’ one for them as they made every effort to keep him at the club.
However, as was reported back in April, Tottenham’s offer was a lucrative one, and the La Liga club ‘can’t compete’.
That’s a familiar tale in the modern football landscape and one that the likes of Celta struggle to deal with. However, if the amount of effort they’ve seemingly put in to keep the young midfielder is anything to go by, Tottenham could have an exciting player on their hands in future.
