It normally takes a bit longer for this sort of thing to happen, but Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday give us a good example of poor research down their end when it comes to attributing a story to someone.
As you probably know, we’ve recently covered two separate stories from Corriere dello Sport regarding a possible swap between Inter and Manchester United involving Joao Mario and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Italian newspaper were the ones to start it, not the English press, and, as we always do, we put a screenshot of the article in our own coverage as proof we weren’t just plucking the story out of thin air.
Well, Gazzetta, in an article of their own on Joao Mario’s situation, mention the Mkhitaryan-Manchester United story, but state the swap idea comes from England.
Furthermore, they claim the whole rumour ‘has been denied from Milan’, basically saying what their competition has been reporting about José Mourinho’s desire to bring his compatriot to Old Trafford isn’t true.
Whether they’ve done it so as to not directly offend Corriere dello Sport, knowing that if they say it’s from England, they can get away with it, we don’t know, but they’re wrong.
The story started in Italy, and, for once, the English media are blame free in this one.
