There are claims in the Italian media Leeds United co-owner Massimo Cellino could look to buy into AC Reggiana. The Leeds United chief has been linked with a return to Italian football in recent weeks, with reports he was also interested in Serie B side Brescia.
Gazzetta di Rreggio have reported Cellino could look to buy a minor stake in Reggiana as the Italian club looks for backers to help them to get promotion to Serie B next season, with plans to get into Serie A within 4 years. The Lega Pro side are currently owned by Mike Piazza, who has business ties with Cellino, the investment claims have popped up in ‘the past few hours’.
The two met in Miami, where Cellino now spends a lot of his time. With Cellino’s experience in Italian football, Piazza could be keen to get the Leeds United man on board for his project.
Cellino has also been linked with Brescia in recent months, but it’s been widely expected he would keep his 50% stake in Leeds United. However, it’s been claimed in the Italian media the Leeds United chief could sell his remaining shares to Andrea Radrizzani in the summer with the price based on how the club fares this season.
Purchasing Brescia will also depend if the club remain in Serie B, but buying a minor stake Reggiana looks a strong possibility.
