For someone who rejected a move to Arsenal in the summer, Djibril Sidibé sure sounds like he wants to play there.
Giving a few interviews since the start of the season, his decision to move to Monaco instead of the Premier League has come up each time, and his answers have broadly been the same: ‘One day, maybe.’
Called up once again to represent his country by Didier Deschamps, the player was asked if he was flattered by their interest in the summer.
He said: “I’d just had a big season with lots of goals. I’d been decisive a few times. Then there was the call up pre-Euros. I was somewhat expecting a few offers. They came. It’s true that Arsenal’s came at the last minute. I’d already decided on Monaco, but it was very flattering.
“Today, Arsenal is one of the biggest teams in the world. As I’ve repeated many times, today I’m at Monaco. I’m happy and I know it was interpreted a certain way, but it’s part of the job. They remain Arsenal.”
Clearly intrigued by the prospect of playing in the Premier League in the future, the 24-year-old admits he’s also intrigued about giving the Spanish league a go at some point.
Since moving to Monaco for £12.75m, the full-back has made 16 appearances, scored one goal and picked up one assist.
