As ever, and perhaps more than usual, there are many players who have contracts expiring at the end of June who don’t look close to agreeing renewals.
That means they can talk to other clubs right now, and potentially then leave on a free transfer come the summer. Indeed, it’s even possible to reach an agreement ahead of that time and go through the paperwork and formalities.
One player in that situation is Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané. With time running out on his contract, Arsenal have been dragged into the situation.
According to Bild, Arsenal are seriously considering signing Sané. He’s considered a player who ‘fits the bill’ for the Premier League club, and that’s partly because Arsenal can get his as a free agent.
As Bild explain, Arteta knows the player well from his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
The 29-year-old hasn’t been fully convincing at Bayern Munich, and if he does sign a renewal with the Bundesliga club then it will be for less than the €20m a season he’s currently on.
