When a manager is having a rocky time it’s natural that other options are linked, and that’s now starting with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.
Finishing last season with the FA Cup, things looked optimistic for the Gunners and their manager ahead of the new campaign. Unfortunately, the situation hasn’t played out that way and Arsenal find themselves 14th in the Premier League after ten matches.
Whilst it doesn’t seem like Arteta’s future is seriously under threat, a couple more bad results will likely see the pressure build and when that happens there’s always the chance of a rash decision being made.
Italy’s StadioSport believe the Spaniard is ‘getting closer to being sacked’ by the London club, and, predictably, they claim an Italian manager is in line to replace him.
It’s stated Maurizio Sarri is the ‘first name on the list’ for Arsenal, which is something which probably wouldn’t go down well with the club’s fans. Sarri had a difficult spell with Chelsea, and was far from being universally popular despite winning the Europa League.
Given Sarri is currently without a club, this feels like an attempt to throw names out, but the longer Arsenal’s poor spell continues, the more these reports will emerge in the European sport media.
