On Tuesday Gaston Ramirez’s agent spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about the player’s failed move from Middlesbrough to Leicester City during the January transfer window.
Pablo Bentancur told TMW: “I was working to bring Ramirez to Leicester, Ranieri and Eduardo Macia wanted him strongly. With Middlesbrough it was a battle, the coach said that if Gaston had gone he would go away too.”
On Wednesday the same TMW who spoke to Ramirez’s agent on Tuesday have an exclusive saying Liverpool are keen and ‘first contacts’ have already started.
It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to work out what’s going on here.
Aitor Karanka and Middlesbrough could do without this at the moment. The agent comments about the failed Leicester move were one blow, and this is another creating a difficult situation.
Liverpool have been linked with Ramirez previously, before the player went to Southampton, and it’s pretty certain that Jurgen Klopp’s men won’t be the last. Leicester City have genuine interest, but the same won’t be certain for all the clubs set to be linked between now and the summer.
In the good old days, a senior Middlesbrough player may have felt that now is the right time to ‘have a word’ with Ramirez and get him to call his agent off, what with a relegation battle to face and all that.
