There’s a claim in the Swedish media that Wolverhampton Wanderers are showing an interest in Helsingborg youngster Armin Gigovic.

The 17 year old impressed for his club last season and is now set to work under former Aston Villa captain Olof Mellberg.

It’s been claimed by Fotboll Direkt that Wolves are tracking the young defensive midfielder, but they are likely to face competition from France and Russia.

According the Swedish football outlet, Helsingborg could struggle to keep hold of Gigovic and the Premier League side have him on their wish list.

In 2018 Wolves brought in Gary Goodchild to head their scouting operation in Scandinavian and it’s likely the player was spotted by him.

Asked about the interest from clubs like Wolves, the Swede said: “It feels fun to hear. But I haven’t really thought much about it. It’s not something I focus on, but I have a good dialogue with HIF. I look forward to 2020 with Olof and the new leadership team.”

Gigovic made his debut for the Allsvenskan club earlier this year and went on to play 14 league games. His performances earned him a call up to the Sweden U17 national side.

He’s contracted to Helsingborg until June 2021.
