Enzo Fernández’s father has revealed his son is “a bit frustrated” with life at Chelsea so far but believes the Blues can turn things around moving forwards.
Don Raúl Fernández has been speaking to ESTO about his son and life at Chelsea, with the Blues still in the middle of their rebuild under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine coach moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer as their new long-term manager, tasked with bringing the squad into line and getting them back on track.
Fernandez was one of numerous big money signings made in that year, arriving in the January transfer window in a €121m deal from Benfica following weeks of speculation about his future.
Like most of those major signings he’s yet to really hit the ground running, though, with his first year in England having been something of a disappointing one given the money Chelsea spent to bring him in.
This season has seen some small improvement under Pochettino’s leadership, but Fernandez Snr admits his son is frustrated, nonetheless.
“He feels a bit frustrated because he was always a winner, so going through these moments is not easy,” he said.
“I tell him to stay calm, don’t read social media, keep training and things will get better. So much so that they are going to play in the final of one of the cups in England against Liverpool.
“Chelsea are in a moment of transition, training with young players, but I tell them to be patient, things will get better. It’s a young team that needs to adapt.
“You are always supporting him from a distance, telling him these things, thinking positively. I tell him that the team is going to make it. One more year and he’ll be fine, they’ll be better.
“So, well, keep fighting because he never got hung up on his titles, I tell him never to lose his humility, always working double shifts, training at the club. When he goes home he trains with a private trainer, taking care of his food, sleeping the hours he needs to sleep, and that’s what I tell him.”
