Like many sides this summer, West Ham were focused on overhauling their forward line, and that meant departures.
Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Pérez left the club for China and Spain, and it was expected Javier Hernández would join them in leaving at some point.
That never happened with Hernández remaining at the London Stadium and featuring in two of their first three Premier League games, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Brighton.
It seems he had one particular offer on the table, however, with former club Chivas contacting him according to their president.
“It is feasible (the return of ‘Chicharito’ to Chivas),” Amaury Vergara told Telemundo Deportes, relayed by AS Mexico.
“We are working on it; there was a small approach this season; it is not the time for Javier to return to Chivas. We must continue pushing for it.”
When that return might happen remains to be seen. Hernández is still only 31 years old, and while West Ham may not be overly keen on him at present, he’s still a player that most clubs would be glad to have given his experience and goalscoring nous.
Should West Ham push for an exit again next summer, or in January, that may be the time for Chivas to try their luck once again. Until then, an emotional return for Hernández is seemingly off the cards.
