The perception of Daniel Levy in the European sport media, especially in Spain and France, of being a difficult club chief to deal with is at the times so dramatic it’s like a caricature.
But there’s a lot of truth in it too. Tottenham have a reputation for buying and selling at prices most beneficial to them and not buckling under negotiation pressure. Levy may well have annoyed clubs at times and whilst it’s not always been entirely positive for Tottenham, the overall balance is certainly in the club’s favour.
Tuesday’s edition of Sport, a Catalan newspaper, takes a look at Real Madrid targets, and they’ll be pleased that Levy stands in the way of Harry Kane.
Kane is the striker Florentino Perez wants above all others, state Sport, but it will be difficult, perhaps too difficult, to get him from Spurs. The newspaper refer to ‘hard president Daniel Levy’ and say the Tottenham transfer would likely be ‘more expensive than logic’.
The Catalan press have spent years explaining Real Madrid overpaid for Gareth Bale, and now there’s the possibility of, in their eyes, them doing so again.
Kane would not only be much more expensive but also a lot harder to get away from Tottenham… and away from Daniel Levy.
