Following the arrival of Bernd Leno at the Emirates last summer, Arsenal allowed David Ospina to join Napoli on a season-long loan deal with an option to make it permanent later this year.
In February, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed his side’s desire to retain the Colombia international beyond his temporary spell.
The same month, Calciomercato reported the contacts between the two clubs have started to complete the goalkeeper’s permanent transfer in the next window for a fee believed to be around €4m.
Ospina’s father Hernan Ospina gave an interview to CalcioNapoli24 and provided an update on where the player prefers his son to play next season.
Alex Meret’s presence could force the South American to settle for a place on the bench, but that does not seem to be the problem for the latter.
“He [David] would also accept the role of a substitute because it is part of an important team,” the keeper’s father said.
Earlier this month, Ospina suffered a head injury during Naples’ clash against Udinese and was stretchered off the field during the game.
Regarding the incident, Ospina Sr said: “We did not think of an accident as happened to David and above all, with that consequence. We had great fear watching the episode on TV. Thank god, everything went the right way. Now my son is well and has returned to training as before.”
