The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was found dead in Brazil on Wednesday night, according to reports from the local media.

Globo Esporte first brought the news saying José Agostinho Becker had gone missing after going for a swim in the family’s property in the city of Lavras do Sul, which is in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The incident happened at the end of the afternoon, and a rescue team was called. The death was confirmed by local authorities at nearly midnight, as reported by Carlos Lacerda.

According to UOL, the police claimed that he fell into the water and drowned. Jovem Pan claims that despite help from the rescue team, the body was found by a friend of his.

Besides Alisson, José Agostinho was also the father of another famous Brazilian goalkeeper, Muriel, who currently plays for Fluminense. He had a huge influence on their careers.

Liverpool’s next game is against Sheffield United on Sunday. In case Alisson can attend the funeral in Brazil, it would be no surprise to see him missing several matches for the Reds in the coming weeks, given the quarantine rules in the United Kingdom.
