Sometimes January transfer deals just work out from the get-go, and in the case of Tottenham youngster Bryan Gil, that has certainly been the case.
The young forward was sent on loan to Valencia at the end of the January transfer window after a frustrating few months in London since his arrival in the summer.
While highly rated by Spurs, Gil hadn’t been featuring under either Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte, a situation that was to the detriment of his development.
Thus the decision was taken to send him back to Spain temporarily so he could get regular game-time, and Valencia jumped at the opportunity to take him.
That’s a decision they’re delighted with so far, with Gil quickly establishing himself in the first team and earning plenty of rave reviews.
We’ve already covered the Tottenham man being likened to Diego Maradona, and other various praise and Sport provide more of it today.
They say Gil is now ‘at the forefront of Valencia’s hopes’ and, despite only playing four games, is now the ‘most outstanding player’ in their squad.
The newspaper explain that Valencia’s fans needed an incentive to regain their faith in the team, and they have found it in the form of the man from Tottenham.
His performances so far have ‘already convinced’ the ‘demanding’ fans inside the Mestalla, having ‘shaken up Valencia’s attack’ since his arrival last month.
With his ability to open up the pitch, stretch the team and create depth in the final third, Gil has given the Valencia attack a ‘leap in quality’ and helped to ‘restore the self-esteem’ of a squad that was lacking in it.
They label the forward as ‘fast, electric, daring, confident’ in everything he does, something which has helped transform Valencia going forwards.
In short, Gil is tearing it up back in Spain, and Valencia are very happy with how things are going so far.
Of course, it’s only early days, so we’ll wait for the inevitable dip, but for now, things are looking rosy, and Tottenham will surely be delighted.
