When Chelsea signed Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, it was well known the Blues weren’t the only club trying to buy him.
Many other sides, including Arsenal and Liverpool, had been linked to the Ecuadorian midfielder, who ended up being sold for over €100m.
As Caicedo’s agent was today interviewed at the Golden Boy 2023 awards, he’s quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb talking about the midfielder’s transfer to Chelsea.
The representative ended up admitting that Chelsea were never alone in the race for the player, as Arsenal and Liverpool tried late moves to get his signing.
“It was a fantastic moment, the culmination of three and a half years work. It was an exciting moment and also a very tense one, at the last minute, as you know, Arsenal and Liverpool also came into the game. It was definitely a great experience,” said Ali Barat.
Brighton made quite a big investment when signing Caicedo in a €28m deal from Independiente Del Valle back in 2021, as Premier League clubs had never spent that amount to sign someone from Ecuador.
That spending soon paid off, though, as it only took two years for the Seagulls to receive several times more with the transfer.
Ali Barat is clearly happy with his work on the Caicedo deal, right through the past few years, and will now be looking for the next big deal.
