Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag is ‘at a crossroads’ and will need to ‘rebuild’ should he stay at the club and ignore interest from Manchester United.
That’s according to AD’s Etienne Verhoeff, who believes Ten Hag will demand more influence at Ajax if he is to stay beyond this summer.
Ten Hag is currently among the favourites for the Manchester United job when Ralf Rangnick vacates the position at the end of the season.
The German boss is only in charge at Old Trafford on an interim basis when he is set to move into a consultancy role further up at the club and help them find a long-term candidate for the position.
Ten Hag is a firm favourite among the fanbase following his work in Amsterdam, where he has rebuilt the squad on several occasions but kept them competitive domestically and in the Champions League.
His ability to develop talent into stars is also a major plus point, particularly given Manchester United’s history of bringing through youth players, the latest being Anthony Elanga.
Whether he would be interested in the move to Manchester is up for debate, and Verhoeff suggests it might be dependent on what Ajax can offer, but AD do point out that ‘things are not going well’ at the Eredivisie side, who are only two points clear of PSV at this moment in time.
“If Ten Hag stays, he will have to rebuild,” he told the AD Football Podcast.
“Considering Rensch’s play in recent weeks, I think they will look for a new right back. They need a left-back.
“A replacement for Gravenberch. An extra striker. Rebuilding Ajax will take a year or two. If he wants to do that, he will want more say in the buying policy.”
