Following a failed move to Nottingham Forest over the summer, Houssem Aouar is now a target for bigger clubs, as Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan both made ‘a concrete approach’ in recent days.
Aouar was linked with a move away from Lyon all summer, having entered the final year of his current deal and made it clear he was ready to move on.
There was not as many interested parties as expected and at one point it appeared Nottingham Forest would win the race for his signature and add him to their huge list of summer acquisitions.
A deal was not completed, though, and the player ended up staying at Lyon until January at the earliest.
He’s been out of favour there under Peter Bosz and has not played a single game since August 5th, even though he is no injured and the Rhone team is struggling.
That’s raising questions internally, say Foot Mercato, who explain that the player’s absence is strange as a contract renewal is in the pipeline at the club.
It means the situation is ‘precarious’ and that is ‘whetting the appetite’ of clubs who are ready to jump on the opportunity to sign him to a pre-contract agreement in January.
Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan are particularly keen and ‘on the offensive’ while Real Betis and Sevilla are still interested as well.
There’s no mention of Nottingham Forest but they were keen in the summer so are surely keeping a close eye on proceedings too.
According to Foot Mercato’s information, Atlético and Inter have already made initial contact with a view to the player joining on July 1st.
Signing for either would be ‘more than attractive’ for Aouar as he can play in the Champions League regularly, something Forest certainly can’t offer.
