After after a claim earlier on Thursday that Chelsea have made contact with regards to signing PSG captain Thiago Silva, Sport Witness contacted the player’s agent Paulo Tonietto so he could have his say on the matter.
The representative denied having spoken to Chelsea so far, but claimed the transfer isn’t impossible.
“Chelsea are a big club. And the English league is the best in the world,” Tonietto told Sport Witness.
Asked whether David Luiz having made the same move would help in the transfer, the agent said: “I don’t know about this, I know they’re great friends.”
Tonietto revealed Thiago Silva isn’t currently in talks for a new deal at the French club, and if this doesn’t change, the player could see his way out sooner than expected: “We’re not negotiating a new contract, let’s see what happens before December. Thiago’s deal ends on June 30th 2017 if PSG don’t qualify for the Champions League. Everything is possible in football.”
Thiago Silva joined PSG from Milan in 2012 for €42m, being the world’s most expensive defender at the time. He’s won Ligue 1 four times, Coupe de France twice, Coupe de la Ligue three times, and has four Trophée des Champions.
Without the clause mentioned by his agent, the player’s contract with PSG only expires in 2018. PSG are surely near certainties to qualify for the competition, which is perhaps why the French club are holding back on renewal talks for the 32 year old.
