Sofiane Boufal to Southampton isn’t done yet, but it’s certainly on the right tracks.
Despite big claims yesterday that an agreement had been found between the two clubs, Sport Witness has learnt that, as of last night, that was not the case, but both clubs are close.
Negotiations between Lille and Claude Puel’s new club are most certainly underway, with everything moving in the right direction, albeit slowly.
As for the player, Southampton is his destination of choice, despite interest from other clubs.
Boufal knows the Saints are a stable side, who get good results every season, while also playing in the Europa League (Lille were knocked out at the qualifying stage).
Furthermore, the club’s structure provides all the right support the player will need to improve and move up in the footballing world, as well as having a French manager who will help him feel at home straight away.
Lille are looking for around €20m for their star forward, and an agreement shouldn’t be too far around the corner.
