Back around Christmas time last year, we covered interest from quite a few Premier League clubs (on our lovely old website) in Angers defender Romain Thomas, but nothing came of it.
West Brom, Crystal Palace and Stoke City were all keen on the 6’4” defender, who impressed greatly as the newly promoted Ligue 1 club enjoyed a fantastic season in the French top tier.
Eventually finishing ninth after a very strong start, the minnows have now suffered three defeats in their first three league games of the new season, and a repeat of last season already seems like a difficult mission.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that West Brom were interested in the 28-year-old French defender, and Sport Witness have had it confirmed from a source close to the deal that both teams are currently in negotiations over a transfer, with an outcome (either way) hopefully expected in the next few of hours.
Deadline day transfers happen very quickly, with a lot to be done in a small amount of time, and even the slightest hiccup in negotiations can cause a transfer to collapse rapidly, so anything can happen in that time.
We’ll keep you up to date if we find anything else out in the coming hours.
