Real Madrid have not approached Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett to help them negotiate with Tottenham Hotspur for Mauricio Pochettino, despite claims of such from Marca, sources have told Sport Witness.
The Spanish club are without a manager since Zinedine Zidane decided to step down a week after their third consecutive Champions League success.
Pochettino is one of the firm candidates for the managerial job at Santiago Bernabeu. However, the 13-time European champions are facing an uphill task in appointing him, especially as he very recently signed a new deal with the Premier League club.
Today’s edition of Marca reports Real Madrid have not “abandoned” their efforts to secure the Spurs manager’s services. Bale’s representative shares a very good relationship with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Marca says Real have approached Barnett to use his friendship with Levy to help them negotiate for Pochettino: ‘Madrid are reluctant to abandon that path, in which all the club’s diplomatic resources are being invested, including the mediation of Jonathan Barnett, agent of Gareth Bale and personal friend of Levy.’
Sport Witness understands the Welshman’s agent has nothing to do with the Tottenham manager and is not helping the La Liga giants in any way, despite the report from the Spanish newspaper saying otherwise.
At this point of time, Real Madrid’s chances of acquiring the former Southampton manager’s signature remain remote.
