Newcastle United are ‘millimetres from a move’ for Odense BK youngster Yankuba Minteh and are ‘ready to throw a large sum’ at the club to sign the player.

That’s according to BT’s sports commentator Lasse Vøge, who has commented on the deal which will be a ‘historically large sale’ for the Danish side.

Minteh has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle throughout this week, with it believed the Magpies are pushing hard to secure his signature.

Indeed, several reports today have indicated that they are closing in on a deal, with it explained that it was ‘extremely close’ and OB football director Bjørn Wesstrøm later confirming as much.

Both of those reports made it clear that the youngster would be joining Newcastle in a deal worth around €7m, as Eddie Howe and his team continue to spend money on young stars to develop for the future.

That figure would be a club record by some distance, with their most expensive departure currently Djiby Fall’s €4.7m move to Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008/09.

Lasse Vøge backs that up with his comments on the impending deal, insisting it is a good price for all the parties involved.

“It’s a transfer that tickles all the right places if you love a good merchant story,” he said.

“We are talking about a player who had to go through two trials in OB before the Fynbos decided to give him a youth contract this summer.

“And here, 17 Superliga games later, the world’s richest club is so ready to throw a huge sum on the table for the Gambian with extreme speed. It’s a great story.

“It will be a historically large sale for OB. And for the Super League, we are also right up in the wow category.'”
