Odense Boldklub’s Yankuba Minteh is ‘extremely close’ to being sold to Newcastle United.

That’s according to BT in Denmark, who say the Magpies will pay 50m kroner [€6.7m] to the Danish club.

The operation isn’t finalised yet as the 18-year-old’s medical tests with Newcastle are still pending.

Minteh will not be included in Eddie Howe’s plans next season as the Tyneside club plan to send him out on loan back to OB.

This report was covered by journalist Farzam Abolhosseini, who took to Twitter to add that OB and Newcastle have ‘reached an agreement’ on the transfer fee.

FC Midtjylland host OB in the league clash on Saturday and the Gambian winger won’t be available for the visitors. This was confirmed by the Danish club on their official website and cited his impending transfer as the reason.

“OB are close to selling Yankuba Minteh. OB has for a long time been in close negotiations with a foreign club about the sale of Yankuba Minteh, and the negotiations have now reached such a stage that Yankuba Minteh will not be in the squad when we meet FC Midtjylland tomorrow,” a statement read on OB’s official website.

OB football director Björn Wesström has explained why Minteh was dropped from the squad.

“It is a difficult decision, but with the risks and opportunities in this case, I have concluded that it is overall the best decision for OB, that he sit out the match against FC Midtjylland,” he said.

With a move to Newcastle set to be close, it was a wise decision from OB to not have Minteh on the pitch for the weekend clash.
