Despite being top of the Premier League after seven games, Liverpool aren’t quite the same team as they were last year.
Their title charge during the 2019-20 season was nothing short of spectacular, steamrolling teams left, right and centre along the way, but the 2020-21 campaign has been a bit different.
Jürgen Klopp’s men have struggled a bit more, especially in defence, as was showcased by their 7-2 loss to Aston Villa, and their wins haven’t been anywhere near as dominant either
That’s been showcased in the Champions League, as well, and there’s an opportunity there for Atalanta, who aren’t exactly goal shy these days.
This is how former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio sees it ahed of the European clash between the two sides, as he previewed the game for L’Eco Di Bergamo, relayed by Calcio Atalanta.
He said: “Liverpool are no longer as hungry as before, of course. They’ve just won the league after thirty years of abstinence, which is huge for a stadium like Anfield. They lived through the successes of the two Manchester teams”.
Only time will tell, but few can deny this is a better time than most to face a weakened Liverpool side, who will likely have to make do without their defensive rock Virgil Van Dijk for the rest of the campaign.
