Of all the Premier League clubs during the last transfer window, Chelsea were one of the most active.

Deciding against spending money in January once their transfer ban was lifted, the Blues saved up to spend big over the past few months, bringing no fewer than seven players in for a total of £222m.

Among those was Thiago Silva, who signed on a free transfer after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, penning a one-year deal at Stamford Bridge with an option of an extra one.

He’s been fairly regular under Frank Lampard, starting four of the last five Premier League games, and he appears happy to test himself in a new league and helping out with the younger generation along the way.

However, if he had got his way, things could have been very different, as reported by Calciomercato on Monday.

According to the Italian website, Silva ‘really wanted to return’ to Milan in the summer, and ‘it was more than a thought or an idea, it was a desire’.

They explain that between June and July, ‘the Brazilian made it known’ to those in charge of the Serie A side ‘that he really wanted to return’.

However, Milan ‘made different choices’ as they decided against bringing in another experienced and expensive (wage demands) player on top of Zlatan Ibrahimović, who has been ‘the only exception’ over the years.

It’s reiterated that Silva ‘enjoys Chelsea, where he feels he is a leader and is enthusiastic in London’, but it appears that was always his second choice.
