Former Leeds United Mirco Antenucci has agreed to sign for Serie B new boys SPAL over Reading, according to claims in the Italian media. Last month the 32-year-old was released by Leeds United after two seasons at Elland Road.
TMW have revealed this morning Antenucci has turned down the chance to remain in England with Reading after agreeing a two-year deal with SPAL, with the option of another season.
The Ferrara based club achieved promotion to Serie B last season, and need to strengthen their squad to compete in the second tier of Italian football. The forward is expected to sign his contract tomorrow.
This will come as a blow to Reading to miss out on the former Leeds United man, but the forward always seemed destined to return to Italy.
Despite being happy in England his family had plans to head back to their home country to raise their children, and as a result a host of Italian sides have been linked with the player in recent months.
