Romelu Lukaku has insisted “everyone will be shocked” if he reveals what went on behind the scenes at Chelsea this summer.

The Belgian striker has been speaking at a press conference ahead of Belgium’s fixtures during this international break, with those covered by Sporza.

Lukaku currently finds himself at Roma after joining them on loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window following a turbulent few months after returning from Inter Milan last year.

He had looked set to rejoin them on a permanent basis before his decision to also speak with Juventus led to Inter fury and disappointment and that avenue being closed off.

A potential move to Juventus also never came to fruition and he ended up scouring the market for alternative options, eventually ending up at Roma with Jose Mourinho after turning down the chance of moving to Saudi Arabia.

The chance of staying at Chelsea and proving himself to Mauricio Pochettino was never on the table, with the Argentine and those in charge at Stamford Bridge making it clear from day one that he was not a part of their plans.

It seems Lukaku wasn’t impressed by what went on behind the scenes, though, and has admitted he will shock many if or when he decides to reveal the details.

“Was I ever afraid that things wouldn’t work out this summer? “No, enough people know what qualities I have,” he said.

“There are just a lot of outsiders who liked to speak on my behalf. A lot of nonsense has appeared.

“Most of the people in the room know me. You know that I don’t like to beat around the bush. I will speak in time, but if I really said how it all went last summer, everyone would be shocked.

“What was the biggest nonsense I read? That I was supposedly told I was going to a certain club, but that didn’t make any sense.

“There were moments when I could explode. Five years ago, I might have done that too, but now I didn’t waste any energy on it. It was a moment to be silent and focus on myself. I concentrated on what I do well: play football.”
