At first, report De Telegraaf, Tim Krul found his Watford medical funny. Cancelling his loan at Ajax due to a lack of playing time, the idea was that Newcastle United would loan Krul to Watford to cover after Costel Pantilimon’s injury.
Krul has been coming back from injury and Rafael Benitez allowed the player to leave on loan in the summer, given the club have Matz Sels, Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot. Without game time at Ajax there was little point staying there so switching to Watford made sense, and Newcastle United agreed.
Krul flew into Watford and De Telegraaf report he ‘laughed at the lengthy inspection at Watford’ and then after several hours became irritated. The newspaper quote the goalkeeper as saying: “Every bone and every muscle looked at.”
Once he’d had enough at Watford, an offer came in from Eredivisie club AZ, so Krul took an Easyjet flight to Schiphol and completed the deal.
Newcastle United agreed without any issues, and Krul will hope he can finally get on the pitch regularly and return to his best form.
If the Dutch goalkeeper manages that then Rafael Benitez has got an interesting option in the summer.
