With Rui Vitória leaving Benfica after three and a half years on the job, all the attention in the Portuguese media is turned to see who the new Eagles’ boss will be.
Most of the local newspapers today are pointing out Jorge Jesus as the main candidate, while Vitória Guimarães’ Luís Castro, who has recently rejected a job at Reading, is the other option.
But Record mentions a possibility of getting Marco Silva as well. They say an approach has already been made, and he’s one of the ‘strongest names’ mentioned at Estádio da Luz.
They say that Silva’s arrival would be for the 2019-20 season, but with Rui Vitória being sacked and Everton not having a great time in the Premier League, the move could be done sooner than expected.
However, it’s still Jorge Jesus who’s the favourite option of president Luis Filipe Vieira. The current Al Hilal manager would stay on his job for a few more months and only arrive in Lisbon in the summer.
In charge of Benfica, Jorge Jesus has won three Portuguese league titles in six seasons.
