Brought in by Everton after some very good years as PSV Eindhoven’s director of football, Marcel Brands has done rather well since taking over at Goodison Park.

The 59-year-old, first alongside Marco Silva, brought in players such as Richarlison, Moise Kean, Allan, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Ben Godfrey, and his track record is comprised of more hits than misses.

Contracted to Everton until 2024, Brands will continue to work his magic over the next few years at the very least, making it clear he is happy with the Toffees and in the Premier League.

The director of football chatted to NOS, where he said the English top-tier was ‘a wonderful league to work in and life is good too’.

That being said, he also stated he isn’t going to stay on Merseyside forever, with a specific goal in mind for the back end of his career.

He said: “I’m having a good time now, but will definitely return in the end. My children and grandchildren live in the Netherlands. That’s where my roots are and we have our house. Ultimately, that will be the final destination”.

With Everton moving into a new stadium in three years time, Brands would likely need to renew his contract to see that happen, but that isn’t something he’s thinking about just yet.

He simply said: “I have never really been working on a career plan. That is very difficult in football”.

We’ll simply have to wait and see.
