When the Portuguese media writes about Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, it’s common to see the player linked to the likes of Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who’ve been reportedly chasing him for a long time.
The interest from Toffees and Wolves was strongly claimed last year, and a few stories even carried this rumour until recently, when those clubs were said to be contenders to sign him in the January transfer window.
It turns out that today, as newspaper Record writes that Nunes is ‘ready’ for the market, those two Premier League sides are actually ruled out of the race for him.
The outlet first reports that the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United are on top of the list to sign the player, pointing out he’s only moving away from Sporting for an ambitious sports project.
That’s when Everton and Wolverhampton are ruled out of the competition. By speaking of Matheus Nunes’ aspirations, Record points out that his requirements ‘exclude from the race’ some interested clubs such as the Toffees and Wolves.
Now in case those sides still want a shot at the signing, they better get prepared to spend big. That’s because the midfielder is protected by a €60m release clause and is expected to leave for something close to that.
