Fabian Ruiz’s rise in Spanish football hasn’t got unnoticed, according to El Confidencial, as Everton have been sending scouts to watch the Betis midfielder regularly.
In an article describing the player’s growth (both in size and as a footballer), the Spanish newspaper explain the Toffees have taken an active interest in the 21-year-old, but they’ll have to wait if they wish to get him.
With Betis comfortable in La Liga, Fabian is said to be very happy with his situation in Seville, despite having a €15m release clause, starting a large portion of his team’s games, even helping them out in more advanced roles when needed.
Why throw this away to potentially end up on the bench at Everton, or at another Premier League side (Arsenal, Newcastle and others are also keen), when he has everything he needs to develop in Spain?
Talks of a new contract are ongoing in Seville, but the club’s offer hasn’t been received positively by the player’s agents, who deem there to be an imbalance between the new release clause and improved wages.
Despite all this, right now, Fabian ‘doesn’t want to talk’ about a transfer away from Betis, but that doesn’t mean he won’t in the future.
As El Confidencial put it, he’s a ‘flea’ with big ambitions, and those could easily translate in a move abroad, perhaps to Goodison Park?
Either that or he’ll take the intra-Spain route that might lead him to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Who knows, but for now, all Everton can do is scout him.
