Strangely, the match between Pacos de Ferreira and Moreirense on Friday night received a lot of attention from scouts.
Everton and West Ham were the only two Premier League clubs to have someone at the game, but they were joined by officials from RB Leipzig, known for spotting great young talent, Feyenoord, Alaves, Eibar, Lille, Montpellier and Atalanta among others.
Everton’s scouting of Portuguese talent will pick up under former Benfica manager Ronald Koeman, as happened at Southampton, and West Ham send an official to games here and there.
However, neither Everton, West Ham or any other English clubs are regular watches of the two teams that played, and it seems word is getting out there must be someone to watch.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola, who published the scouting list as part of their match report, don’t name a possible target for Everton, West Ham or anyone else, and it’ll be interesting to see if the two clubs become regulars at Pacos de Ferreira matches.
They were the home side, and it’s usually a player from the home side being watched, but Moreirense won the match 2-0.
